Elephant Rescue Round Up of the Day: Employees at Zambia’s Kapani Safari Lodge were alerted to a mother elephant and her calf stuck in a patch of mud.
Despite their good intentions, the elephants’ herd was simply unable to help out, so the humans decided to step in and lend a hand.
Working with members of the South Luangwa Conservation Society and other local wildlife officials, the rescue team was eventually able to free the frightened animals, who wandered off at their leisure.
“[It was] heart-warming to see how many local people joined in the efforts to free the two elephants,” said a Kapani Lodge staffer. “It was the happiest possible ending.”
